Throughout the contemporary era, most of the persons in the society has stayed focused on its own interests. To put an end to this evil, The fundamental structure of new education policy. includes requirement that education institutions define their social responsibility. The academic institute should be responsible for the development of the area in which the institution is located. Purvanchal University has already followed to this tradition. If the CORONA epidemic period is excluded, students at Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University have been providing free coaching “PRERNA” for the past 9 years. This free coaching was launched on February 4, 2014. Coaching is a blessing for all the rural students in the Purvanchal University locality who are unable to afford today's overpriced education.
This coaching was started by the program of National Service Scheme when the students of National Service Scheme (NSS) of Engineering Faculty of the University, during their special camp, were promoting the literacy mission of the Government of India in Devkali and Bhatani villages near to Purvanchal University. At the same time, some children were observed playing with glass balls in Devkali village by these students. When asked why. They did not study. Several of these children stated that they did not have access for the tuition or coaching due to the limited funding. The next day, a team of students from engineering faculty launched "PRERNA," a free coaching program. Coaching began at the Devkali village PANCHAYAT GHAR.
These students have set an example by lighting the lamp of free knowledge and have brought honor to the university. Every evening from 4.30 pm to 6.00 pm, students from the different faculties like Engineering & Technology, Science, Prof. Rajju Bhaiya Institute, and Pharmacy collectively contribute for this coaching in Devkali village, near to Purvanchal University.
The coaching began with a strength of 30 students. Number of children registered in 2015 was 150, 225 in 2016, 243 in 2017, 220 in 2018, 208 in 2019, 225 in 2020, session had to be zero in the year 2020-21 due to CORONA pandemic, 148 children in 2021 and 138 children are benefiting from this free coaching in the current year. The number of teaching teachers (students of engineering and technical faculty) was eight at the beginning, and it is now 18 in the current year. This coaching has benefited 1557 children thus far.
Amarjit, Abhishek, Amar, Anshu, Kaushalendra, Azmat, Afzal, Kaushal, Nadeem, Absar, Ayush, Akshay, Swarnim, Ankita, Shilpa, and Himani are the students to teach in PRERNA for the current session. Dr. Raj Kumar, Head, Department of Mathematics, is the coaching coordinator. University faculty members deserve a lot of credit as well for encouraging and facilitating their students' involvement in community service.
