Department of Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry was founded in 1997 as an integral part of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (formerly, UNS Institute of Engineering & Technology)with the mission of teaching and promoting fundamental chemical sciences and applying practical aspects of Chemistry to aspiring engineers in building a solid foundation in the context of technical education.The Department teaches Engineering Chemistry I and II at the entry level for engineering graduates from the various disciplines.The department provides students with a well-equipped laboratory in the field of chemical sciences for their practical and skill development in Chemistry. The department also facilitate the Ph.D., and D.Sc., program in Chemistry.There are 2 highly qualified and experienced faculty members working in the department.
The Head of Department
Prof. (Dr.) Ashok Kumar Srivastava is currently working as a full professor and has serving as a Head of the Department of Chemistry since its inception.
Prof. Srivastava completed his B.Sc and M.Sc in Physical Chemistry from Institute ofScience, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. He conducted his Ph.D thesiswork on“A Study on Origin and Chemical Effects of Anodic Contacts Glow DischargeElectrolysis in an Aqueous Inert Type Electrolytes” at the Department of Chemistry, Instituteof Science, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
Prof. Srivastava has joined the Department of Chemistry at Veer Bahadur Singh PurvanchalUniversity as Lecturer in 1997, where he become Professor in 2009.Presently, Prof. Srivastava is working as Head of the Department and the former Dean of Faculty ofEngineering and Technology. His academic career is throughout first and specialization inPhysical Chemistry.
He has published 30 research papers in refereed National/Internationaljournals. Besides, he also attended 10 National/International conferences and workshops.Prof. Srivastava has been actively involved in teaching of several courses of Chemistry forEngineering Undergraduates for last 23 years. He guided the Ph.D. student and most notably D.Sc. in Chemistry. He believes that the purpose ofresearch is to advance knowledge, the purpose of technology is to advance the social situationand the purpose of education is to fulfill human potential.
Apart from teaching, Prof. Srivastava serve as Members and the chair of the variouscouncil/Board constituted by the University and successfully completed the assignments withgreat satisfaction and honor.
